Picking someone to design your personal or business web site takes a bit of time and research. Kevin Davidson cuts a lot of that time out of your search!
What should I be looking for?
First, their web site. Sure, it may look pretty good, but is it functional. We mean, can you find where to go easily? Can you find the information you want quickly? If you can then they have a pretty good design sense. If they have a clean, neat design then check them off as a maybe.
Second, there is more to the design then what you can actually see. It also falls under Search Engine Optimization, or SEO for short. Did you find their site quickly using Google and Yahoo!? If so, they most likely have done a great job of utilizing SEO and will do what it takes to get your site at the top of the search results. This is extremely important! The design may look good, but what good will it do if nobody can find it? None!!! How can you make sure they did their job with SEO? Easy! A simple search using Google will help. Try typing this in the search box:
site:http://www.{designers site}.com
If you see more than one listing, that's a good start. Optimally you should see one listing for every page that is on the site. If you don't, take them off your list because they are going to make it harder for your potential web site visitor to locate what they are looking for. The next thing is to see what they have done for other customers and do the same thing with Google with the site: search. Remember if they are consistent then they are the one you want.
